Friday for you.

I'm in VA but I haven't forgotten that today is Friday.  Think, think, think.  What shall I ask today...

Okay, here's a practical one.  I'm looking for a good family planner/calendar.  Any suggestions?  Since we all have a lot going on it would be good for us in regards to planning the week, etc. to have a place where it's all listed.  Samuel's appts.  Libby's school stuff.  Mike's classes. What do you do to make life work... I would love a great planner/calendar but am at a loss where to find something good...

Help.

There are lots at calendars.com. I use a pretty calendar on my fridge...fairies. And I love one I got from Target. It is canvas on the outside that is bright green with white polka dots...too cute. I use it for all my school stuff, soccer stuff, appointments etc. It has monthly calendars and weekly with plenty of room. Also to do lists and a notepad. It is big enough but not too big. You know I can still throw it in my diaper bag...and I know it will fit in that big purse of yours. ;) I know most people only use one calendar and that is usually a better way to organize but I need the detailed daytimer for me and then a master calendar hung up so Aaron has some idea of what is going on and we don't end up with scheduling conflicts...so that one is on the fridge. I love the art by Ida Rentoul Outhwaite...so I have this one http://www.calendars.com/Product.asp?PID=1&MGID=-1&IID=34370

I'm thinking dry erase (for the many changes that will happen) and multiple colors (for the variety of events and people). Oh, this is exciting. I love organizing.

Because I am attached to my computer most of the time, I use Microsoft Office Outlook on it. Its changeable, you can print out the months, and if you have your computer with you all the time, it works. I keep a binder in our kitchen with the calendar printed out for the current month and the next month. I put them in sheet protectors, and write on them with dry erase marker. It seems to work for me, since I'm the only one who cares about the calendar now :) Check out Flylady.net. They sell calendars...not too cheap, but you can get some good ideas from her site.

I have to say I have tried most every type of calendar, lesson planner, etc...

I have to second the flylady. Here is what I have found: the squares are huge! I like to see the whole month cause keeping one week visable is not enough for me. This calendar is roomy! I bought my first one last month and I really like it. I don't do well with more than one cause if stuff isn't in one place I will forget. Just comes with age I expect (or does it come with 4 kids under 6?) Either way, I am a goner if I have to keep up with more than one calendar.

I'll 3rd (?!) the flylady.net suggestion...I think the calendar they have is for 16 months (?). I'm going to get one for the new house once we get in and I keep hearing how great they are. Currently I use a good old fashioned daytimer where I can see the whole month (with room to write events in the days) and that works for me (also small enough to take with me). I think it's by Franklin Covey Day Runner or something. I get the refills at Target.

I don't know if that link will work. If not, go to dayrunner.com and search for message boards (I find their site difficult to find things on, but I can't find this anywhere else). I like the Home Manager Organizer Board. It has big squares, a small white board and a little cork board. It is kind of expensive, but after the first year, you just have to buy the calendar refill. The whole thing sticks to your fridge. I've been using it for several years now and love it. Very functional.
